Significant change to Thursday night and Friday snow forecast

Chilly weather is going to accompany the storm. The heaviest snow will move through Thursday night, with lighter amounts as snow winds down Friday morning.

For the rest of Friday evening, there will be some snow showers around. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Estimated accumulation in Woodstock exceeded six inches, Romeoville exceeded four inches and St. Charles received 4.5 inches.

Snow will continue through Friday, with the warning now set to expire at 9 p.m.

"Expect a hard Friday morning commute, especially south of Milwaukee and Madison and into northern IL", according to the National Weather Service.

Several of the states expecting the heaviest snowfall are now issuing storm warnings, including in Ohio, Michigan, Northern Indiana, Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, and Eastern Iowa, and thousands of flights have been canceled.

"We will be doing everything we can to prepare for and combat this major winter storm", said Metra CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski in the statement.

Gino Izzi, meteorologist with the National Weather Service forecast office in Romeoville, said it will be a standard winter storm. By the afternoon, skies will be partly sunny and temperatures will reach into the lower 20s. Diminishing winds will keep our wind chill values in the single digits through the overnight.

We're still on track for more snow Saturday too.

Greylock Snow Day posted on Tuesday that it has a "high confidence in the early release for all districts in Berkshire County, and a better than 55 percent chance that we get full snow days for all". Much of northern IL had seen between 8 and 12 inches of snow by Friday afternoon, CNN meteorologist Taylor Ward said.
