Two Ohio police killed while responding to emergency call

Two police officers were shot and killed in the line of duty Saturday north of Columbus, according to WBNS.

"These were two of the best we had", Morbitzer said. "This was their calling and they did it right", said Morbitzer, his voice halting and thick with emotion. "We will miss both of these officers because they were pillars in our department", he says. "They're true American heroes".

Officer Eric Joering, 39, died at the scene, and Officer Anthony Morelli, 54, died from his wounds at a hospital. They came under fire when they responded to the address connected with the call.

No additional information about the suspect or the incident to which police responded were immediately available. The Columbus Division of Police will be handling the investigation.

The Fraternal Order of Police of OH asks anyone who wishes to support the families to donate at GoFundMe.com/FOPLodge9HelpFund.

Republican Gov. John Kasich, who lives with his family in a nearby township, tweeted he's "very saddened to learn of the deaths of two of my hometown police officers". Check back for updates or follow BuzzFeed News on Twitter.
