Mom left newborn baby in airport bathroom with handwritten note

The baby was found with a torn umbilical cord, which responding medics clamped immediately, and a note that read, "I just want what is best for him and it is not me". My mother had no clue she was pregnant.

Arizona is a "safe haven" state, meaning parents can drop off newborns at designated locations like hospitals and churches if they are unable to care for them.

A baby believed born in a Tucson International Airport restroom was left behind with a note that said, "I'm sorry".

At the end of the note, the mother pleaded, "I just want what is best for him and it's not me".

Authorities say the baby is healthy and remains in the care of the Arizona Department of Child Safety.

An airport custodian saw the woman leave the restroom and asked her if she was okay after seeing a pool of blood on the floor.

The Tucson Airport Authority discharged film this seven day stretch of the lady strolling through the air terminal when the baby was deserted on January 14, and are hoping to discover her identity. She says the woman told her the naked baby was three months old.

The expectant mother walked into the airport, but later left the premises without her newborn baby after she gave birth to the child inside the restroom, airport authorities said. The custodian also found bloody clothes in a trash can.

All 50 USA states, Puerto Rico and Washington DC have a law known as the safe-haven or Baby Moses law which allows mothers to leave newborns at certain locations such as hospitals without fear of penalty.

"We would like to know who she is but we've exhausted our resources", said airport spokeswoman Jessie Butler.

But the airports are not among facilities commonly designated as safe havens. Authorities have not yet filed any criminal charges, according to the Arizona Daily Star.
