Terrorists attack army camp in Jammu and Kashmir

Residential quarters located inside an army camp at Sunjawan, Jammu came under attack from terrorists on Saturday morning at around 5 am leaving two jawans including a JCO dead.

"And around at 4.55 am, the suspicious movement was noticed, and the sense bunker was sacked upon and they retaliated".

The Minister informed the House that the whole area has been cordoned off by Army and the other forces and operation is underway as militants have taken refuge in JCO quarters in the area.

Schools within 500 metres of the camp have been asked to remain closed by the district administration.

Sources said two to three heavily armed militants, believed to be fidayeen, in a pre-dawn attack stormed Sunjwan army camp in Jammu city at around 4:55 am and opened a heavy volume of fire resulting in injuries four persons.

Terrorists breached the rear side of Sunjwan Army camp near Chenni in outskirts of the city during the intervening night. Local people told media that gun shots were heard inside the camp and the area has been cordoned off by the Indian forces. The DGP has apprised him of the situation.

Intelligence inputs had warned an attack on the army or security establishment by Jaish-e-Mohammed in view of the death anniversary of Afsal Guru who was hanged on February 9, 2013. They have been cornered in one of the family quarters. Twelve soldiers were killed and seven others were injured then before the two terrorists were neutralised.
