New York Knicks' Kristaps Porzingis suffers torn ACL in left knee

The injury is now a fairly serious setback for someone who was finally getting to put his stamp on the franchise. Since the new millennium began over eighteen years ago, season after season something has gone horribly wrong for the Knicks.

Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis clutches his left knee after a fall during the first half of a game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at Madison Square Garden.

New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis suffered a National Basketball Association season-ending knee injury on Tuesday in his team's 103-89 defeat to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Porzingis is expected to undergo surgery in the next few days and a look at other National Basketball Association players history with the injury shows a long and arduous rehabilitation process.

An MRI revealed a torn left ACL, an injury that will sideline Porzingis for the rest of this season and perhaps a good deal of the next.

The trade deadline is Thursday, and Knicks brass is still trying to get over the shock of losing Porzingis. What the Knicks should do is trade expiring contracts for draft picks or to shed salary (the Knicks just traded Willy Hernangomez to Charlotte for two second-round draft picks), so I guess they're off to a decent start in that sense, I guess. They have dropped 11 of their last 15 games. "But then he instantly switched to, 'I've got to take on this new journey". And given the unlikelihood of NY finding a taker for exiled center Joakim Noah, he may wind up getting his wish and receiving more playing time after the trade deadline, particularly if the Knicks do move O'Quinn. In that case, why did I say dont sign Lebron? While X-rays came back negative, it's unclear whether he'll undergo further testing in the coming days to ensure he didn't aggravate the earlier injury.

Perry also said he isn't contemplating a coaching move with the Knicks, losers of four straight, sitting a season-worst nine games below.500 at 23-32. Would Lebron stepping on to the court in the 2019 playoffs as a Knick be an wonderful spectacle?

With the Knicks needing to start a complete rebuild, they should be looking to grab as many picks as possible, which would be a 180-degree turn from previous years where they tossed them away for veterans. In fact, we're going to declare this jam over Knicks guard Tim Hardaway Jr. the NBA's dunk of the year because the Greek Freak literally jumped over him. The Knicks would do well to pack it in, let Joakim Noah play 40 minutes a night, and try to snag a top draft pick. All this might make sense, just suck until you best player returns, But why continue to lose games once your star returns to the court? He will have surgery to fix the injury in the coming days, though it hasn't yet been scheduled.

So now the Knicks will wait - for Porzingis to get healthy, for the ping-pong balls to bounce as they may, for the next calendar year to go by. His left ankle seemed to buckle on the play. If they still want to make it to the playoffs, the entire lineup though should step up their games and prove that they are more than just a one-man team. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career this season.
