West Ham poised to announce signing of former Man Utd star

The 36-year-old had been a free agent for three months after he was released by Marseille following a insane incident in which he tried to kick a supporter.

West Ham boss David Moyes previously worked with Evra at Manchester United during the 2013/14 season.

Evra has not played in the Premier League since leaving United for Juventus back in 2014. City's right-winger that day Trevor Sinclair had a field day and Evra was hauled off at half-time.

He arrives at West Ham after winning seven league titles and the Champions League among several other competitions.

Sky Sports News understands Everton are also interested in the left-back, but the Hammers look set to sign the free agent, who is believed to favour a move to London. Among other English clubs interested in the France global are Everton but the player is said to be keen on a move to London.

The move for Senegal-born Evra comes days after the club sacked director of recruitment Tony Henry over alleged discrimination towards African players.

Why are West Ham after him?

But we could expect a different reaction from the Portuguese press, who today, puts a pretty big picture of Marco Silva in one of their pages to say he's on West Ham's list for the next season.

Vice-chairman Karren Brady has leapt to the defence of the under-fire owners after being questioned about their perceived lack of spending on players.

"They might be 26 or 27, they might be 23, but they won't be 32".

UEFA banned Evra from European club competition until June 30 but he is free to play domestic league soccer.

Evra could make his debut against Watford on Saturday, with fellow left-back Arthur Masuaku suspended for a further four matches after being sent-off for spitting against Wigan Athletic in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

James Collins and Jose Fonte are both 34, while first-choice right-back Pablo Zabaleta turned 33 last month.

"It's wonderful to be back and I am thankful to West Ham for giving me the opportunity to do my job".

Evra received a ban for the incident, which means he can not play in any UEFA tournaments.
