Michigan Child Had Died From The Flu, Health Officials Confirm

Four more people have died from the flu in the Tri-Cities, bringing the total to 12 since mid-December - and making this the most deadly local flu season in recent memory.

The flu can be a serious condition for anybody: patients and family members of all ages, from the very young to the very old.

"We have good supportive care to nurse people through an acute and disgusting case of flu", Bouvier said. "We deal with seven or eight wholesalers and we're picking it up when we can".

While not a pandemic of the 1918 sort, this season's flu has been made worse by several factors. They haven't confirmed any additional ones in the past few weeks. That was in 2015, and it was something of an aberration - the three years before and two years after only saw one to two flu deaths each.

"I don't think we have peaked yet", Driscoll said.

The health department's surveillance map shows that, too.

Flu is "widespread" in Pennsylvania overall and in this area specifically, according to the department - which places the statewide situation on the most dire level in its website model.

"We want to make sure that everyone out there is protected".

Try to avoid close contact with sick people. While the use of cell-grown reference viruses and cell-based technology may offer the potential for better protection over traditional, egg-based flu vaccines because they result in vaccine viruses that are more similar to flu viruses in circulation, there is no data yet to support this.

They are conducting their next flu shot clinic this Saturday, February 10, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., at the North Branford fire department EMS Headquarters, at 1315 Middletown Avenue in Northford.

The flu vaccine is recommended for most people.

Vaccinations will be provided by Connecticut State licensed nurses. Infants and children ages birth to 4 years old account for 277 of the season's cases. Frequently wash your hands with warm water and soap, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth and avoid large crowds at all cost.

Staying hydrated and eating good food is essential when you're sick.

Jason Derden, the Medicaid program's pharmacy administrator, said after the meeting that the program requires a doctor to seek permission from the program when prescribing more than one course of antiviral treatment for the same patient in a 23-day period.
