Soldiers Killed & 1 Injured in Pak's Ceasefire Violation in J&K

In Rajouri district, six mortars fired by Pakistani forces exploded near Neaka Panjgrain and Tarkundi villages in Manjakote sector around 1540 hours, the official added. The Vice-Chief of the Army Staff Lieutenant-General Sarath Chandra said that the Army would continue to give a befitting reply.

Earlier on Sunday, a 15-year old girl and a soldier were injured in Pakistan ceasefire violation in Shahpur area of the LoC in Poonch district.

It said the "unprecedented escalation in ceasefire violations by India" had been continuing since the year 2017 when the Indian forces committed 1,970 ceasefire violations.

India regularly accuses Pakistan of aiding fighters in crossing the LoC to attack Indian targets. On Sunday, it again did it.

"It leaves no space for any confidence-building like a ceasefire agreement", claimed former Northern Army Command chief, Lt-Gen D S Hooda (r), who oversaw the "surgical strikes" on September 29, 2016. "And one of the shells landed near the officer and his men, leading to the casualties", he said when asked about Sunday's shelling.

Reports are coming that those killed were identified as Captain Kapil Kundu, 22, Rifleman Ramavatar, 28, Rifleman Subham Singh, 22 and Havilder Roshan Lal, 42.

The State Legislative Assembly was adjourned on Monday after opposition legislators created ruckus over continuing ceasefire violations by Pakistan. "Indian positions are effectively and strongly retaliating and heavy firing exchanges are going on between the two sides", a source told IANS. "We will not forgive Pakistan's actions", he said.

With an obvious eye on scaling up the already-explosive border situation, Pakistan has started using heavier guns, including 120mm guns, whose indirect fire and parabolic trajectory causes the maximum damage.
