Conte keen to see out Chelsea contract

FIGC assistant commissioner Billy Costacurta confirms Gigi Di Biagio could be more than just the interim Italy Coach, but "Antonio Conte has pulled out".

In response to the comments made by Costacurta, Conte's former teammate at worldwide level, he reaffirmed his commitment to the west London club.

Conte had signed a new two-year contract with Chelsea only in July last year, but looking at how things stand now, it seems that his days at the Bridge are numbered and a return to Italy could be very much on the cards in the summer. "We played together with the national team in 1994 [at the World Cup]", Conte told a news conference on Friday.

He said: "My intention, my will is to respect the contract". The 2006 FIFA World Cup winners are without a manager, having sacked Giampiero Ventura after Italy failed to qualify for the summer's World Cup in Russian Federation. According to some reports, Luis Enrique is in a very enviable position to replace Conte, especially if the Blues need a replacement for Conte before the end of the season.

And, speaking of the vacant role, Fabbricini said: "Mancini was in Rome but we didn't contact him, Conte seems eager to wear Azzurro again, Ancelotti opens and closes the door and Ranieri isn't out either". I'll go to London to talk to Conte.

More news: Scotland captain John Barclay doubts Wales will play…

"Until a few years ago, I thought the [head coach] was only a selector".

"I trust in my work".

With the title already gone, Stamford Bridge chiefs may grant their boss a stay of execution even if the Hornets spring a surprise tomorrow.

Costacurta added: "Antonio did a fantastic job at the Euros". It's clear that it won't be, or it's highly unlikely to be, the same person who will be in permanent charge of the national team in future. We won't have to wait too long, but we have to do things properly.

The club's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth last Wednesday showed worrying signs that the dressing room no longer back Conte.
