Israeli Cabinet Approves Budget for Years 2018-19

Israel on Friday said that any problems in the earlier-proposed Spike anti-tank missile deal with India can be solved, thereby indicating that the deal may still be alive. On the United Nations vote issue, speaking on Friday ahead of the arrival of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu to India on a six-day visit starting Sunday, Israeli Ambassador Daniel Carmon pointed out that recently when Indian Judge Justice Dalveer Bhandari was contesting for re-election to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Israel had gone so far in India's support as to adopt Justice Bhandari as its candidate too. During Netanyahu's visit to the country next week, meetings between Israeli and Indian officials are expected to focus on ways to increase cooperation in areas of tourism, agriculture and innovation. The DRDO missiles are yet to be tested and will not be ready till 2022, which could hit India's operational capabilities in the interim, Rawat said.

There is still a possibility that the $500 million Indian deal for the purchase of 8,000 Spike antitank missiles from Israel, a deal that was cancelled by New Delhi barely days before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's upcoming trip to India, could be salvaged.

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that in the coming weeks he will be meeting "with the leaders of three of the four strongest countries in the world".

"The Prime Minister's visit to India is the grand finale to the celebrations 25 years of growing partnership between India and Israel". The visit is a reciprocating gesture from Israel to the first Prime Minister-level visit from India undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2017.

India's ties with the Jewish state have been in focus as India voted at the United Nations General Assembly last month against the USA recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. "My visit to India is the other one", Netanyahu said addressing the Government Press Offices annual end-of-year reception for the foreign press corps yesterday.

During his stay, he will also visit Gujarat and Mumbai. Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. won almost $2 billion in contracts from India past year alone. Moshe's parents were killed in the 26/11 terror attack at the Chabad House.
