Serena Williams Covers Vogue With Baby Daughter Alexis

Williams told the magazine that the first couple of months of motherhood have tested her in ways she never imagined. In surgery, doctors found that a hematoma, a pooling of blood outside of a blood vessel, had flooded her abdomen (the blood thinner caused the hemorrhaging).

WASHINGTON, USA - Look out, women's tennis.

"Sometimes I get really down and feel like, 'Man, I can't do this.' It's that same negative attitude I have on the court sometimes".

The 36-year-old tennis pro opened up in the February issue of Vogue about "the low moments" she's experienced since welcoming daughter Alexis Olympia with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. Williams returns to tennis in March.

"I absolutely want more grand slams".

"Maybe this goes without saying, but it needs to be said in a powerful way: I absolutely want more Grand Slams", she said. I'm well aware of the record books, unfortunately. "And actually, I think having a baby might help".

"When I'm too anxious I lose matches, and I feel like a lot of that anxiety disappeared when Olympia was born", she said. Or I'll get angry about the crying, then sad about being angry, and then guilty, like, Why do I feel so sad when I have a lovely baby? "I don't need the money or the titles or the prestige".

Serena told the fashion bible she has a history of blood clots and lives in fear of them returning. "That's a different feeling for me".

"And then everything went bad", the star said in the interview. Her previous blood clot experiences have been equally dramatic.

Williams was put on blood thinners, but she was not out of the woods yet. She also needed a filter inserted in a vein to prevent further clots and was forced to rest in bed for six weeks.

We're sure Olympia would have her say in the accompanying feature piece if, you know, she was old enough to talk, but the input from her mum is compelling enough on its own.

"I know how hard she works", she said.

I've been trying to figure out who I'm going to pass the torch to.

"I think that's when the turning point came in our rivalry, when I stopped looking at her", she said.
