'Google Pay' is Here to Rebrand Company's Payment Solutions

Google is amalgamating Android Pay and Google Wallet and re-naming it Google Pay. "Over the coming weeks, you'll see Google Pay online, in-store, and across Google products, as well as when you're paying friends", Pali Bhat, the VP of Product Management from Google's Payments teams said in a blog post.

Some of the companies already onboard include Airbnb, Dice, Fandango, HungryHouse, and Instacart. The merger is aimed at making all payments across Google and on third party services more simple and safer. Considering Android and Google's reach that number is expected to grow significantly. Instead, Google opted to go a different path by launching Google Tez, an app that now lets you make bill payments. We are also yet to see what changes the search giant makes for its Indian Google Tez users.

Tez at present uses the Unified Payments Interface which is an interoperable payment system.

Google is simplifying the way people make mobile payments using one of its many services. Android Pay was supposed to launch here at some point of time but then Google chose to launch a market-specific app called Tez here instead. Their payment info will be saved on platforms like Google Chrome, YouTube, Google Play and more for easy buying of content on the web, videos or movies and apps. Unsurprisingly this has led to confusion and fragmentation. Google Wallet was the first NFC payment system for smartphones, and later it was rebranded to Android Pay with the Wallet sticking around as a P2P payment system.

Google has been accused of pulling a Microsoft, by endlessly rebrand and rename products that are successful, but not market-leading, in an effort to become the market leader, but end up fragmenting their own brands further by alienating existing loyal users and confusing late-adopters and casual observers who don't follow the branding news.
