Armed robbers seize jewels worth '4 million euros' from Paris Ritz

Local newspaper Le Parisien, citing a police source, reports that the robbery was interrupted by an officer on patrol, but two people escaped on a motorised scooter.

The jewels stolen are thought to be worth up to €4.7 million.

A police spokesman said authorities arrested three suspects after the robbery around 6:30 p.m.

The publication is reporting that three of the five men have been arrested, though it is unclear as to whether the jewels have been recovered.

It is not uncommon for world-famous jewellers to display their jewels in the Ritz hotel in Paris.

In more recent history however, the Ritz has become known as the place where Britain's Princess Diana spent her last hours before a vehicle accident in a tunnel in the French capital while being pursued by paparazzi.

Several high-end Paris jewellery stores have been targets of dramatic robberies in recent years, including Cartier, Harry Winston and Chopard.

Five men, some wearing jackets with police insignia, held Kardashian at gunpoint, making off with several pieces of gold and diamond jewellery as well as a ring - a total estimated worth of nine million euros.

The Ritz was an especially luxurious target.

Princess Diana famously dined at the hotel with Dodi al Fayed before they both died in a tragic auto accident in the Pont de l'Alma underpass.
