Chelsea complete signing of Ross Barkley from Everton for £15million

No fee was given for Barkley, who has not played for fellow Premier League side Everton this season because of a hamstring injury.

Antonio Conte has described Ross Barkley as a "good prospect" for Chelsea after midfielder completed a move to the defending champions from Everton on Friday evening.

Former England coach Steve McClaren is backing Ross Barkley for success with new club Chelsea.

"I think with Kante there, Fabregas and Barkley being the runner and joining in, scoring goals from midfield, they'll be a real threat and a good midfield three".

Understandably, the 24-year-old wanted more time to consider his options, especially seeing as he would not have been fit to feature for his new club until the turn of the year.

The same report claimed that Tottenham Hotspur ended their interest in Barkley due to the player's wage demands, putting Chelsea in the front seat for his signature.

Chelsea's top-flight title defence has faded amid Manchester City's stunning form, with Antonio Conte's men facing a 16-point deficit to the summit.

He said: 'For sure we're talking about a young player, an English player.

Conte urged caution over expectations for Barkley.

Do you think Chelsea need a player like Barkley?

While personally I'm not all that enthused about Barkley as a player, the price, if Law is correct, could be as low as £15m, which is absolute peanuts in today's market, especially for a young, homegrown player who a few years ago was going to be the next greatest thing. He's very strong physically, good technique.

3 years later, Ross Barkley signs for Chelsea and takes Frank Lampard's number 8 shirt? He's a good prospect but at the same time, it will be very important to understand when he can recover from his injury.

"We have to hope to recover him very quickly and have him for the rest of the season".

"He had a bad injury and has not played for seven months".
