Donald Glover's Inspiration For Season 2 Of 'Atlanta'? Try 'Tiny Toons' - TCA

Donald Glover's Inspiration For Season 2 Of 'Atlanta'? Try 'Tiny Toons' - TCA

"That was the inspiration for season two", Donald revealed at FX's Television Critics Association press tour on Friday to laughter, adding at one point that it was one of his favorite childhood TV shows.

The critically acclaimed first season was a quirky blend of comedy, drama and surreal moments, providing America a very different look at the city than shows like "Real Housewives of Atlanta" and "Love and Hip Hop Atlanta". We really tried to just devolve what television was. "How I Spent My Vacation" was a direct-to-video film that featured the same characters, following them during their summer vacation, which later aired as four separate episodes of Tiny Toon Adventures. Glover is influenced by music in everything he does so we can't put this connection past him. Before he left to shoot the Lucasfilm blockbuster, however, Glover assembled his writers room and got the scripts for Atlanta Season 2 ready to go, so when he wrapped Solo last fall, he was ready to move right into production.

Executive producer and director Hiro Murai pointed to the season's unique title, Atlanta Robbin' Season, as a palette cleanser of sorts. "Everybody does seasons. The theme we wanted to go for was this". "You enjoy them more when they're all together, but you can also enjoy them in bits", Glover said.

So what does Robbin' Season mean? "We picked a lane a little bit more". "People just have more stuff, money". You might get your package stolen off your front porch. When we were there shooting the season, my neighbor got her vehicle stolen. "It's a very tense and desperate time, so we wanted to make that a backdrop to the season, and our characters are going through the same desperate transition from their old lives to where they are now".

FX today finally announced a return date: Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 10 p.m.

Glover's younger brother and fellow writer and executive producer Stephen Glover was a little more forthcoming about Season 2 specifics, particularly why it's called "Robbin Season".
