Alex Trebek on Leave from 'Jeopardy' Due to 'Medical Problem'

"Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek is taking a break from the popular game show to recover from brain surgery. But he assured fans he'd be back reading clues to contestants soon.

No timetable for when he'll be back on the air.

The show's producer, Sony Pictures Entertainment, said in a statement that Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on December 15 and underwent surgery the following day.

He was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Friday, December 15 after experiencing "complications" from the fall, according to an update on the show's website.

Tapings of "Jeopardy!" have been put on hold while host Alex Trebek recuperates from surgery. The prognosis is excellent.

However, the upcoming College Championship, which was scheduled for taping now, will now be filmed in March.

Trebek's absence isn't expected to affect the show much, since episodes are taped months in advance. Then again, in 2015, he had carried out his hosting duties while being seated after getting a full knee replacement.

The 77-year-old host was born in Sudbury, Ont., and went on to host "Jeopardy" in 1984.
