Apple's $5000 iMac Pro Goes on Sale Later This Week

One thing that will make even the ardent Mac users think hard over purchasing this beast, is the price tag on the iMac Pro. It also comes with a beautifully crisp 27-inch Retina 5K display, flawless working on advanced graphics editing, virtual reality content creation and real-time 3D rendering.

Translation: it's a hulking great mega beast with astonishing power, a lovely screen and incredible graphics.

Previously, the 5K 27-inch iMac sat on top of Apple's range and while the rest of the iMac line-up have received some upgrades, the iMac Pro is now the pinnacle.

Prior to the launch of the iMac Pro, customers who wanted alternative color options had to go with cables and accessories made by third-party companies. Now, a report says Apple may start taking iMac Pro orders as soon as next week.

The iMac Pro uses AMD's Radeon Pro Vega 56 GPU, which comes with 8 GB of HDM2 memory, as the baseline. Apple is yet to announce more details on the pricing based on configurations. It's quite clear that Apple isn't kidding around. Featuring up to 18-core Intel Xeon processors, 128 GB of RAM, 16 GB of video memory, and 4 TB of Apple's fastest PCIe SSD storage to date, it's no slouch. The iMac Pro doesn't seem to a product which will get that much crowd is. It has 802.11ac WiFi built in, along with Bluetooth 4.2. Apple was tight-lipped as to the manufacturer and interface used for the SSDs, but given the computers' price tags and pro-duty aspirations, we'd imagine they're speedy NVMe units.

At least for all that money, the iMac Pro will come bundled with a matching space grey Magic Keyboard (with numpad), Magic Mouse 2 and a Magic Trackpad 2. The HiRise Pro sports plenty of space inside for external drives, docks, and more.

YouTube personality Marques Brownlee was given the iMac Pro for a week ahead of the launch and recently posted a video about his thoughts on the system.
