Willie Taggart Leaving Oregon For Seminoles

Taggart danced around the topic of the Florida State opening when speaking with reporters last week.

Less than a week after Fisher resigned to take the head coaching position at Texas A&M, the Seminoles will bring in former OR coach Willie Taggart as their new coach, according to multiple reports Tuesday. While Taggart is said to have been happy in his first year at OR, he is a Florida native and could not pass up the opportunity to coach one of the biggest programs in his home state.

"Somebody asked me if I was happy and all of that, and I am still smiling, still happy, still the coach here", Taggart said Friday.

He replaces Jimbo Fisher, who resigned last week to take the Texas A&M coaching job. The Bulls went 24-25 in four seasons under Taggart and lost the lone bowl game he coached in - a 45-35 defeat to his alma mater in the 2015 Miami Beach Bowl.

Eventually, you get too experienced to be viewed as a "up-and-coming head coach", and that day is approaching quickly for Taggart.Eventually, you have to win at a high level and Taggart has fast-forwarded that timeline by accepting this job.

Taggart runs a version of the spread, and his quarterbacks have been highly productive at Western, USF and Oregon. This is the first time FSU has gone through a coaching search since Bowden was hired. But FSU rebounded and won four of five down the stretch to continue the program's record bowl streak to 36 consecutive years. Will he do any different with the garnet and gold? Taggart is expected to bring in several top assistants, many with ties to the state of Florida.

Florida State will play Southern Miss in the Independence Bowl, while OR faces off against Boise State in the Las Vegas Bowl.
