Asus, HP Debut Snapdragon-Powered Windows Laptops

Although the NovaGo has been announced, there's no word as to when it will arrive in the shops.

HP and Qualcomm promise a 20-hour battery life on the HP Envy x2, and while it's a lofty promise, if it's true this could well be the longest-lasting Windows 10 device we've ever tested.

What we do know is that the Asus NovaGo price starts at $599. We'll update with United Kingdom pricing when we can.

Contrary to what you might expect, the new Windows 10 ARM computers don't look hugely different from their Intel counterparts. NovaGo is powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor which runs most of today's flagships. Until then, it's worth mentioning that, once again, the Snapdragon 845 is the result of the collaboration between Qualcomm and Samsung.

I'm very curious about the eventual performance figures for this emulation, since the idea of running my garbage Win32 translation management software on a fast, energy-efficient laptop and external monitor seem quite appealing to me. It's created to be highly secure, and to perform tasks like real-time language translation and high-speed wireless without adversely impacting battery life.

Terry Myerson, executive vice president of Microsoft's Windows and devices group, told CNBC that he uses his Asus NovaGo "always connected" convertible laptop for a week at a time on a single charge. However, Microsoft says you'll only need to change once per week and Qualcomm says it's "beyond a day" so it's a bit confusing. (Credit: Qualcomm/YouTube) While not revealing every detail about the Snapdragon 845, Qualcomm said the newest mobile processing platform would focus on six features: cameras that could take 360-degree photos, VR and AR immersion, artificial intelligence, security, Gigabit LTE and, of course, more power. This means speeds of 3-7 times that of average broadband. It's paired with up to 256GB of flash storage and 8GB of RAM, which should be enough for some heavy web browsing sessions. However, you'll be able to get a model with 8/256GB for an extra $200. Frost didn't mention a stylus, but the machine was pictured with such a pen attached to its case, so it probably supports Windows Ink. The exec said that he already used a Windows 10 on ARM PC for watching movies, working in Powerpoint and checking email, and shared that he did "all of this without plugging in my power cord all week".
